1.
We sing aloud for God has won Deliv’rance through His conq’ring Son And His own Spirit’s come to bring His life within, His song to sing Chorus: Give thanks always for everything To the Father, through the Son Give thanks always for everything By the Spirit filled, we sing aloud We sing aloud so all will hear And grow in faith and love and fear Till all the church is made complete In Christ, her Lord, a fragrance sweet (Chorus) We sing aloud but not without A heart that sings a silent shout Of honest praise that pleases Him And richly dwells in Christ within (Chorus)
2.
More than watchmen waiting for the morning Earnestly we wait upon the Lord More than all creation’s eager longing, O, we long to see that day When every sin that clings to us so closely, Every foe that wars against our souls, And every bitter tear that clouds out glory’s light Will all be swept away Chorus: When He comes again In the glory of His kingdom We will all be changed When we see Him as He is O to be found faithful to the end When He comes again The sky will split, the dead will rise immortal In the clouds will shine the Son of Man Conq’ring with the sword of His eternal truth And making all things new (Chorus) Now’s the time to waken from our sleeping The night of sin is spent and day is near Seizing what’s remaining of our fleeting years We love and labor on (Chorus) When he comes, our glorious King All his ransomed home to bring Then anew this song we’ll sing Hallelujah, what a Savior
3.
Who can stand in the presence of our God, In the fiery light where angels hide their faces? Who can gaze on the beauty of the Lord, That exposes and undoes our sinful souls? Who can speak when His law has named our crimes, When our hearts and works are weighed against perfection? Who can claim to be righteous in the eyes Of eternal Light that pierces through all things? Chorus: O Holy God, I lie in dust! My awe, my Judge, my grace, my trust I’m raised in Christ, no more my own And receive the holy call to make Him known Who can stand as a bridge from God to man? For the chasm dug by sin is dark and dreadful Only Christ, Heaven’s holy, humble Lamb Satisfies the Just and justifies our souls (Chorus) Who will go in the Spirit of our Christ, In a manner fully pleasing to the Father? Give me grace! As I offer up my life May I bear before the world Your holy name (Chorus)

Psalm 100 03:45
All you who call the earth your home Let all Jehovah’s songs be raised Come serve Him with your gladdest hearts Come to His feet with joyful praise Our great Jehovah, He is God Creator and our Sovereign King His people, we are ever His And in His pastures we will feed With thankfulness, swing wide the gates And cross the thresholds of His grace Come voice your thanks for within His house And bless Him for His glorious Name How good and gracious is the Lord His steadfast love outlasts the world Our children, like the world's first born Will find His love firm as His word
5.
O the sovereign power that guides me Every moment of my days O the weakness of my spirit That forgets and shrinks away So when faced with tribulation And my feeble understanding fails May I honor Him who holds me Trusting in my Father’s care When the storms of life surround me And the winds of worry blow I remember not a sparrow Falls, but God my Father knows Not a war can rise against me That’s beyond His strength to overcome So I’ll let my heart take courage Trusting in my Father’s care When my health and comforts fail me And I fear what lies ahead I remember His good purpose Is to heal through what I dread And from pride to fully purge me Till all strength is gone but what He gives So I’ll joy in every trial Trusting in my Father’s care When my failings overcome me And my sins are all I see I remember Christ who suffered Setting guilty sinners free So when condemnation rises May I gladly let my burden go He is faithful in forgiveness I will trust my Father’s care Though the fig tree fails to blossom And the vine should bear no fruit Though the produce of the olive And the harvest yield no food Though the flocks be lost and scattered And no herds remain within the stalls Still, my joy shall fully flourish Trusting in my Father’s care Let His children know for certain They can trust their Father’s care
6.
The Lord is near, He knows our hearts He knows our falling and our rising Our every path is guided, guarded By His kind and mighty hand The Lord is near, His holy Word Creates a faith that’s living, moving Let us be near its rivers rooted Bearing fruits of righteousness Chorus: In light or darkness, death or life His presence goes with us to cheer and guide O fear Him, love Him For the Lord is near The Lord is near, He condescended To be born Emmanuel In every way He bore our burdens Died and rose to bring us near And nearer still, His Spirit comes He breathes new life, He forms and fashions Our hearts within, our lives without To make us God’s own dwelling place (Chorus) The Lord is near, O call upon Him All you weary, brokenhearted And to your feet He’ll give the strength To walk the everlasting road (Chorus)
7.
Love so broad, its spreading beams Shelter and shade the hopeless Never has any wayward road Carried beyond your love’s reach It’s deeper than the earth is old Deeper than the grave is cold Lifts to heaven’s heights untold Fill me with all Your fullness Love so bright, it kindles praise Calls me to blaze its glory I would spread its holy dance Giving myself for God and man Yet within, where love should be Lives my sin, my enemy From this death, Lord, set me free Fill me with all Your fullness Love so free in Jesus Christ Covers my debts and failures In the cross I see its price And in the empty tomb its guarantee Grant my soul this pow’r divine: Faith to claim your love as mine Ever drawing from the Vine Fill me with all Your fullness
8.
Lift rejoicing songs unto Christ our Lord and Savior Raised to give us life anew in the Father’s favor Our inheritance is sure: treasures of eternity By the Father’s pow’r secure Full of joy and glory Let rejoicing songs repeat through our burning trials That same hand which stokes the heat Leads us through its fires When the Son of God appears We, the faithful, will receive Praise and honor for our tears Full of joy and glory Chorus: Rejoice and wonder With joy inexpressible filling our hearts And bless the Father In mercy He saved us, in power He raised us to life Let rejoicing songs be heard All throughout creation Offered to the sovereign Word Gracious in salvation Though we have not seen, we love Though we do not see, believe Lift rejoicing songs above Full of joy and glory (Chorus)
9.
Near my God, I will stand and pray I will bring no works to commend me And thanks I'll raise for the freest grace For the sovereign love that revived me I was like other men, adulterers and thieves Without hope in righteous deeds Chorus: But You are merciful to me, a sinner You lift my fallen head All I plead: Your grace, my need My only hope to stand before Your throne You are merciful to me, a sinner Far away, I will bow and pray For I see the stains that condemned me But heav'n broke through Like a shepherd, true, You left the fold just to find me Like a father running To greet a wayward son You clothed me with Your robe and ring (Chorus) Mercy falls on the least of all And justifies the unworthy There I'll stay, in the lowest place And extend Your hope to the hopeless I was like other men, adulterers and thieves May they see the grace I've seen (Chorus)
10.
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
 All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
 This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
 Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
 His hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
 The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
 This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair;
 In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
 He speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
 That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
 This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
 Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
 And earth and Heav’n be one. This is my Father’s world, Why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King—let the heavens ring! God reigns—let the earth be glad!
11.
May our hearts be filled with Christ And our minds with things above May we turn from worthless things That call us further from His love May our joys be those He gives Not the stolen joys of man May we taste the sweetness of a life Led by His good command Chorus 1: For the hungry, He is bread For the heavy-laden, rest And his gift is life to all who come His free gift is life to us May His gospel flood our souls With forgiveness, peace, and grace May his cross be ever in our view And our abiding place (Chorus 1) May we taste and see the Good That seems often bland and dim Jesus, melt our hardened hearts And wake us from the sleep of sin Chorus 2: Holy Spirit, now reveal By the power of the Word That His glory’s more than eye has seen, Tongue has told, or ear has heard (Chorus 1)

about

(A single sheet music PDF of all the songs is included when you download the whole album—includes lyric sheets, chord sheets, and lead sheets).

This album is dedicated to my dad, Douglas Hughes, who went to be with the Lord during the early days of the project. His love for music was contagious and his encouragement of my musical efforts was an inspiration to what I do. I’m honored that a few of these songs were of spiritual encouragement to him and to my mom during his final days.

These songs were written as part of a new and ongoing effort to release songs and hymns that are carefully crafted, both lyrically and musically, for use in the church. Many of them have been sung in my church (Faith Community Church, Woodstock, Georgia) for a few years, leading the saints in praise to God; I hope that they will be useful to your church (and to you personally).

One the main objectives in this release is to begin writing hymns on subjects that are less commonly addressed in church songs. For example, the first song, "We Sing Aloud," is basically a theology of congregational singing set to music. It answers the question, "Why does the church sing?" "When He Comes Again" focuses exclusively on the second coming of Christ and how that should motivate our faith and lives in the present. "Who Can Stand" declares the holiness of God and our response. "My Father's Care" is written as a hymn that teaches us how respond to trials with trust in God. "Full of Joy and Glory" is an expression of 1 Peter 1:3-8. "You are Merciful to Me" is based off of the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican found in Luke 18. I reimagined the parable as though both men realized their deep need as sinners before a holy God, since both the religious and the “pagan” lean on God’s mercy as their only source of hope. “May Our Hearts Be Filled with Christ” is a call to “taste and see that the Lord is good,” rather than being consumed and distracted by the world around us. Those are just a few examples of the themes I've dealt with in this project. Enjoy!
